Dave Clark / Don Koch / Dan Dean
Recorded by Phillips, Craig & Dean and co-written with Dan Dean and Don Koch. The idea for this song came from a pastor friend of mine in Michigan. I still remember the night he called the house and said he had a title that God had told him to give to me. Before he told me what the title was, I explained all the reasons why that's not the way the process works.
After a lengthy conversation I finally asked him what the title was and he said simply said, "Pray Me Home." I have to confess I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did but my mind started spinning immediately with ideas. A few weeks later Don Koch and I flew to Dallas to write with Dan Dean. It was near the end of the writing session in the choir room of Dan's church when I shared the story of the preacher calling me and told them the idea.
In what seemed like no time at all, the song was finished. We all had a sense the song was something pretty special. Through the years it remains one of only a handful of songs where the rough work tape was as moving as the final recording.
